SICEP is an information system used by large mining and industry, for their search, selection and monitoring processes of suppliers of goods and services.
The Supplier Companies Qualification System (SICEP) is a project developed in 2001 by the Association of Industrialists of Antofagasta, in response to the need of supplier companies to have an approved registry of contractors. The founding purpose of SICEP is to contribute to the strengthening of the productive chains of the national mining industry, constituting a meeting point between buyers and companies that provide goods and services to the national mining market. In this role, SICEP provides value for supplier companies by generating a showcase for the most important mining companies and large industrial companies in the country and providing information for the improvement of standards in the industry; and contributes to the value chain of user companies by providing information for an adequate selection of suppliers, reducing the risk of contracting and, consequently, reducing their operating costs.
From its beginnings to the present, SICEP has experienced a sustained role, currently managing supplier and contractor registries for 26 companies throughout Chile, belonging to the most important mining conglomerates worldwide, such as: BHP Billiton, Glencore Xstrata, Antofagasta Minerals, SQM, Teck and Yamana Gold among others.
Today this initiative has been fully consolidated, bringing together 26 user companies and more than 3,500 suppliers of goods and services, whose combined production accounts for more than 60% of the country's mining GDP.
